Loving the Skin You're In

We all make New Year's resolutions to change something about ourselves each year.  For many it's to lose weight, eat better, and be more health conscience as we prepare for 2010.  Whatever the resolution, we attempt to make these changes because it's something we want to improve on.

Just keep in mind as we embark on healthier paths we have to consider all aspects of a healthy lifestyle.  With skin being the largest body organ how is it possible for so many of us to forget to care for it as we do our heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, eyes, and other major body organs.  Just as we watch what we eat paying particular attention to what is applied to the skin is just as important.

Happy New Year!!!!!

So what are the benefits of using natural skincare products?

If you've ever paid attention to the labels of many products that you buy I'm sure you might have questions as to what are those multi-syllable words and chemicals that you're placing on your body.  One of the biggest benefits of natural and handmade products is that you can be assured of what products are being used on your skin and its origin.  For example, paraben products are used in many products to preserve them and extend a products shelf life even though current research has shown that they can be toxic.  Many petroleum based products such as propylene/butylene glycol and petroleum by-products like mineral oil have been found to be skin irritants by clogging pores.  Realistically, any product (chemical or natural) can be a skin irritant based an individual's skin sensitivity.  However, when using natural products you have control over what you place on your body.  In addition, if you're crafty enough to make your own products you have complete control over the products you use.  You can choose natural products that have been known to be beneficial for years even before the invention of harmful chemicals and preservatives.

The use of synthetic chemicals poses a threat to a persons well being.  Nutrition for your body comes from the outside as well as the inside.  Many of us eat right and place emphasis on proper nutrition in terms of what we orally ingest.  What you put on your skin is just as important.  Remember your body absords whatever  you place on your skin whether it's good or bad.  So, if you eat right for your internal health it may be beneficial to treat your skin with the same goodness.

Read the labels on your cosmetics the same as you read the labels on your food products.  If you don't know what an ingedient is researching it may be a good idea.  For the purest choice it could be beneficial to use natural skincare products that suits your skin's needs.

Truly natural skin care does exist

After suffering with excema and dry skin for years the concept of using natural ingredients was introduced to me by a natural healer.  When I speak of natural products I'm referring to products made only with ingredients that come from the Earth.  Some examples of this would be natural butters such as shea butter, mango butter, and other natural butters from plant sources.  In addition natural oils such as jojoba, conconut, and sweet almond has tremendous moisturizing properties for dry skin.  Check back often for the latest in natual skin care.
